Understanding Traffic Safety Culture

Understanding Traffic Safety Culture

When you are on the road, practicing traffic safety is a must. Despite the success of various enforcement measures, accidents and injuries from traffic collisions remain one of the major universal problems. To address this problem, fundamental transformation in the traffic safety culture of road users is extremely important.

Obey Traffic Rules and Laws

Measuring and understanding traffic safety culture is of utmost importance, and it has gained immense popularity nowadays.  Some of the contributing factors to road traffic crashes are related to the driver, over speed, the vehicle, the pedestrian, the bicyclist and the road itself. To save lives as well as private and public properties, the best strategy is to be cautious and defensive at all times. It is also important to obey traffic rules and laws.

Traffic laws in Oman are strictly enforced and the consequences for violating them may be severe by U.S. standards. Many efforts has been taken in Oman in setting a comprehensive and unified strategy to reduce the number of accidents, tackle their effects, and to look into the traffic problems of all types.

To reduce deaths and injuries, and property damage from road traffic collisions, preventive measures are often taken or recommended. These include infrastructure adaptations such as pedestrian crossings, installation of fixed speed radars in the various governorates of the Sultanate.

Be Aware Of the Traffic Safety Rules and Regulations

Road safety education plays a significant role in shaping the attitudes and behaviors of children and young people. Today’s children are among the most important social groups who will be driving their vehicles in the future. Therefore, it is important to spread awareness among school children to promote traffic safety regulations.

Here are a few basic road safety rules for kids

  • Know Your Signals
  • Stop, Look, and Cross
  • Always Use Sidewalks
  • Crossroads and Pedestrian Crossing
  • Never Cross Road at Bends

By spreading awareness on traffic safety and by delivering the right road safety message to the public, it is possible to reduce the increasing number of traffic accidents which has a negative impact on society.
